Walmart to Begin Selling Electronic Cigarettes?

by Rachel Daley on January 12, 2011

Electronic Cigarettes

One of the hottest trends in health may be coming to your friendly big box retailer down the street. Electronic cigarettes, also known as e-cigarettes or ‘vapor sticks’ may be heading to Walmart. That’s right…Walmart. But it won’t be in the electronics section.

Electronic cigarettes arrived on the scene in the mid-2000s. It’s tube, shaped like a regular cigarette, features a mini-vaporizer, a rechargeable battery and sensor that can tell when a smoker takes a drag. It is supposed to mimic the taste and feel of a real cigarette.

“I love it,” says 32-year-old Rachel Spreey. A user of vapor sticks. “I was worried about how dumb it looks when I smoke it but so many people have asked me about it and they think it’s pretty cool. I feel better too. It’s nice not to smoke unhealthy tobacco.”

Most e-cigarettes are manufactured in China and imported into the United States. Walmart is the biggest importer of Chinese goods, making the stocking of electronic cigarettes a natural fit.

“Walmart is going to stock the [electronic cigarette] kits behind the counter and will only be sold to adults 18 and over,” says a source within Walmart. “One aisle will have the ability to sell cigarettes and that’s exactly where they will go.”

No word on when Walmart will begin carrying vapor sticks.

I sure hope they sell Nu1s from Nu1s .com…the best product and the best flavor ..and they are the guaranteed to always sell at the best price…Why would they sell anything other then Nu1s!! Their rechargeable’s sell for only $12 and their disposables are even lover! They have the best reviews and always stand by their product. Nu1s also are the most tested and have obtained the most prestigious certifications of quality. Ir is about time you get the best product at the best price at Walmart.

People don’t read ads, but they do read post. http://www.ecigchoices.com is my site where I advertise and discuss e-cigs. I post on message board because it’s better than paid advertising. When you make 15% on 50 buck, the price for advertising is far too expensive for the worthless results. At least those two guys know someone actually saw their post. I bet you never sold a thing online in your life. As for the article, I’ll probably have to shut down my site when Wal-Mart begins selling e-cigs. Why, because website that are worth anything cost money. E-cigs are a great product, so I can’t get upset about the world’s largest retailer getting into the game.

It’ll depend on the quality and price of the product/s sold. They have been available locally in many areas for some time now, mostly malls so it’s not like that aspect is changing. They will be behind the counter so people will have to ask for them instead of being able to look at them in the isle.

The question is are the going to be selling a better quality product at a better price than has been available locally. Most of what has been being sold locally is borderline crap at gouging prices with salesmen spewing outright lies like 1 cart = 1 pack of cigs.

If they sell a quality product at a reasonable price and tell you what it’s capable of rather than spewing off some numbers that will never be obtained then it could be great for the industry. If they just continue doing what’s already being done locally It’ll just continue giving the E-cigarette industry a bad image in front of a wider audience.

It will all depend on what ecig/atomizer brand they are willing to carry. Some are more popular than others, but it seems to me that almost every type has some sort of following. It may not affect online sales at all. It would be nice to know that I can go to a local store if I need something rather than waiting a few days.

I bought a Volcano e-cig and I love it. Now I don’t smell of smoke, and I can smoke my e-cig anywhere! For some good reviews on different brands along with e-cig news, I recommend taking a look at the E-Cig Reviews Blog, found at http://e-cigcentral.net

Not a spammer, but a very happy user of e cigs. Really hope they do not get lumped in with “real” cigarettes.

I love my new RE/AL e-cig. Completely vaporless. I have been smoking in restaurants, bars, my office, sporting events. Oh yeah…everywhere I was unable to before. I have joined the revolution!

Thanks for the laugh. That would be nice but I don’t see it happening unless they dedicate a specialized section of the store with specifically trained sales people.

It’ll probably be something small in kit form. The most we could hope for would be something like a 808 starter kit which will appeal to the masses with it’s two piece design. Those preform pretty well an already have a large following.

First off there isnt a “best ecig” and if there was one right now that the public would chose for a small one like this it would be the Ego ! Bar None

I have stopped by my Local Walmart and they have not yet put these out in the market. I think people like electronic cigarettes that look and feel real. My choice is Modern smoke. A nice nicotine flavor with a hint of mocha for the true tobacconists. New to the East coast and well established in the west coast boasting a lifetime warranty, 1% failure rate, all green product. Its gonna be tough to beat the $19.95 retail price for a starter kit and $12.95 refill cartridges. Saving people 500% more then real cigs over a year. email me for questions.elo.hankhamnc@gmail.com

Hey guys long time lurker first time poster. I know there are some smokers around here and wondered if anyone was interested in electronic cigarettes. I watched this webinar http://enjoymywebinar.com/signup/577 and it was very informative about them (you have to register to watch it). Opinions?

I had found the brand that WallyWorld sells previously at a truck stop. They are called Mistic, and do indeed seem to be a variation of the 808. 7.00 for a battery with one carto, 15 for 5 cartos, and 15 for a pack with one battery 2 cartos and a charger. Taste on the cartos is decent but not great (I’m a fan of “Johnson Creek Tennessee blend”). They are fairly easy to refill (standard carto fill; pop the end cap and drip along the side) and last me about 2 days of semi-chain vaping (by refilling). The biggest reason I failed to continue vaping on my previous attempt was the days where everything seemed to fail at once while I was on the road. It was easier to buy a pack of ciggies than fight with reluctant gear. Now I can just go to the local store and get new gear whenever I need it. Just as easy as buying cigs.
